Hibiscus Tea Concentrate Recipe

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup dried hibiscus petals (also called “flor de jamaica”)
  • 2 cups water
  • Optional: 1 small strip of lemon peel or a few fresh mint leaves for extra aromatic notes (leave out if you want pure hibiscus)
Instructions:
  1. Boil Water:
    • Bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
  2. Steep the Hibiscus:
    • Remove water from heat.
    • Add 1/2 cup dried hibiscus petals to the hot water.
    • Stir once to fully saturate the petals.
    • Cover and let steep for 15–20 minutes for a strong, deep flavor.
  3. Strain:
    • Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a jar or bowl.
    • Discard (or compost!) the petals.
  4. Cool:
    • Allow the concentrate to cool completely before using it in your drink recipes.
  5. Store:
    • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
    • Good for up to 1 week.
✨ Notes:
  • This method makes a very concentrated hibiscus tea — it will be tart, floral, and vivid in color, ideal for blending into mocktails.
  • If you prefer it even stronger, you can simmer the petals on low heat for 5 minutes before steeping.
  • No sweetener is added to keep it low-calorie and flexible for mocktails.
