How-To Recipe Tips

How to Make Maca Root Syrup

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Simmer the maca:
In a small saucepan, whisk 2 tbsp maca powder into 1/2 cup water.
Bring to a low simmer over medium heat for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally until slightly thickened.
  2. Sweeten the blend:
Remove from heat and stir in 1/2 cup honey, agave, or sugar until fully dissolved.
(Optional: add a pinch of cinnamon or a few drops of vanilla for flavor balance.)
  3. Strain (optional):
For a smoother syrup, strain through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove undissolved particles.
  4. Cool and store:
Let the syrup cool, then transfer to a clean glass jar or bottle.
Refrigerate and use within 2–3 weeks.

Pro Tip:

If you’re using liquid maca extract, you can follow the same approach as with schisandra:

1 oz maca extract + 3 oz sweetener = maca syrup
Stir or shake until fully integrated.

How to Make Black Sesame Salt Rim

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Toast the sesame seeds:
In a dry pan over medium heat, lightly toast the black sesame seeds for 2–3 minutes until fragrant. Let them cool completely.
  2. Grind the mix:
Using a mortar and pestle or spice grinder, coarsely grind the sesame seeds with the sea salt. You want a textured mix—not a fine powder.
  3. (Optional) Add charcoal:
For a more intense black color, stir in 1/4 tsp activated charcoal powder.
  4. Store or use immediately:
Transfer to an airtight jar. Keeps well for up to 1 month in a cool, dry place.

How to Rim the Glass:

  1. Rub a lime or grapefruit wedge around the rim of your glass.
  2. Dip the moistened rim into the black sesame salt mixture.
  3. Tap off excess, and let dry for 1 minute before pouring in your drink.
